What all muslims must do

When Ali, in The Clone, is seen on his knees and without shoes, praying over carpets and reciting in a low voice parts of the Koram, at no time his attention deviates from the prayer. In this sacred moment in real life for muslims - and that in the novela the character only acts - it is as if they were talking directly to Allah.


Facing Mecca, presently located in Saudi Arabia, Jade's uncle in the novela - as all muslims, wherever they are - will repeat the same act five times a day: at sunrise, at noon, in the afternoon, at sunset and at nightfall.

And also on Fridays, when the iman (spiritual leader) will conduct the afternoon prayer, giving advice and practical comments.


The habit of praying every day is one of the main basis of Islam. Every day it is reminded by the muezim, the man that, from the top of the tower in the mosque (house of prayers), is in charge of calling the followers of Islam for a daily conversation with God.

All equal

The prayer (salât) is for the muslim an obligation written in the Koran: it reinforces the unit around Allah. It also brings together the people that, lining in rows in the mosques, with no distinction of origin or wealth, but with distinction between sexes, become equal in the presence of God.


Muslims may pray wherever they are and not only in mosques, but before they must obey the following rules: purify the body (ablution), pray at specified times, kneel down facing Mecca and dress without wearing anything tight or transparent (men covered at least from the waist

to the knees, and women the whole body, except for the face, hands and feet).

Words of Allah

There is no scene played by the arab nucleus of The Clone where the Koran - "the book" - is not mentioned. Patriarch Ali, for example, several times a day recites his suratas (chapters) - and not only when he is praying.


Many times, Ali uses the words from the sacred book to tell Jade how she should behave in relation to her marriage according to the islamic culture.Or, yet, to criticize his friend and scientist Albieri because of his genetic experiments.

The many practical applications of the contents of the Koran are at its own essence: More than a religious book, it is a moral and social code, that brings a vision of the world and the laws of Islam itself, dictated directly by Allah.

Basis of Islam What all muslims must do

1st) Faith

"There is no other god, except for God!" This phrase, repeated with a second part that says "Mohamed is the Messenger of God" , is the first basis (or pillar) of Islam. Known as chahada, it is a phrase that decorates mosques, palaces and residences, a true testimony of the acceptance of a unique God and his prophet.

2nd) The prayers

Pray five times a day, revealing constancy, is one of the proofs of devotion from the muslim. After purification is done (ablution), prayers begin with the follower standing and end with him on his knees with the forehead on the floor - ready to be reborn and that at the same time reveals himself small before God.

3rd) Charity

All things belong to God, therefore, man must not keep for himself the wealth. Sharing it with those that have nothing is one of the ways to practice the zakat, third basis of Islam, and that means at the same time growth and purification.

Around 1/40 of what wealthy muslims have is devoted to charity, lessening the suffering and in last instance, promoting money flow in society.

4th) Fast

During the sacred month of Ramadan - that changes according to the islamic calendar, that is lunar -, physically capable muslims do not drink, eat or smoke during the day. Only at night, and with moderation. Fast imposes self discipline, but also stimulates compassion for those in need.

5th) Pilgrimage

In Mecca, where all those who can afford it should go at least once in their lifetime, there is no distinction between muslims. There, dressed in a simple tunic, are the poor and rich, rulers and common men - all together moved only by the faith in Islam.

Pilgrimage also stimulates interchange amongst muslims of several countries, that is highly favorable to form sediment and the diffusion of Islam.
