In Islam, music is part of the many facts of
everyday life.

Rich in percussions and rhythms, arab music is marked mainly by voice - and that originates on the strong oral tradition of the arabs. There is a very narrow bond between the movements of the belly dance and the sound of the instruments. Those of percussion (drums, tambourines) correspond to the hips; the more melodic ones (flutes) to the heart; and the harmonicals (fiddles, citharas), to the head.

In Morocco, the word used for music is al-âla, that means instrument. The musical styles of the country are classified

as nouba (classical, where the soloist is supported by a chorus or instruments) and melhoun (popular, of sung poems).
